Estimated Heating Demand 9 kW ( 30717 BTU/hr )
Output of selected heat pump at design temperature (-30C/-22F maximum) 10kW
Percentage of demand load requirement produced by heat pump at design temperature (-30C/-22F maximum) 111%
External backup boiler required 12kW
Internal backup boiler required if using Alt Source tank 12kW
Heating Design Temperature 5° F
Total Square Footage (sq. ft.) 4100sq.ft.
Insulation High
Arctic heat pump required 050ZA/BE
Comments Basement - 1,800sf (radiant slab + central ductwork) Main Floor Living Area - 1,650sf (central ductwork) Second Floor Living Area - 650 sf (central ductwork) Garage: 1,800sf (radiant slab + fan coils) *wider thermostat range e.g. 55f-80f. Excluded fom square footage submitted due to tool maximum. Garage Second Floor: 900sf (high wall fan coils). Excluded fom square footage submitted due to tool maximum. Domestic Hot Water for family of 4 New Construction being built starting late summer/early fall 2026. Would like to design a hydronic system for this application, potentially including radiant flooring panel system.

*NOTE* - The heating demand load we have estimated for this project is likely to be inaccurate. There are many variables that factor into a building’s heating demand, and although square footage and insulation value are major factors, many other building variables contribute. We compared the results of this tool against hundreds of custom manual J reports and found that this tool predicted the demand load within +/- 10% of actual calculated load in 25% of the manual J results we compared to. This tool has limited accuracy when predicting the demand load of a single project but is very accurate at predicting average demand loads on a macro scale.

To get a more accurate estimation of the final demand load range for your unique project, we suggest you run this tool at all three insulation value options (High, Medium, Low). 90% of the manual J reports we compared to have a demand load that fits within the three predictions generated by running this report at all three insulation values.

Arctic takes no responsibility for any performance issues resulting from using this estimation to size a heat pump. We recommend that every customer has a manual J conducted before purchasing heating and cooling equipment. A manual J is the most accurate way to predict a building’s demand load.
