Frequently Asked Questions About Hydronic Air Handlers

Can I use my existing gas furnace with an Air-to-Water Heat Pump?

Generally, no. Standard gas furnaces have heat exchangers designed for very hot water (180°F) from a boiler. Heat pumps work best at lower temperatures (110°F-120°F). If you use a standard furnace coil, the air will feel lukewarm or cool. The Arctic Hydronic Air Handler solves this with a massive 6-Row Heat Exchanger, specifically engineered to deliver warm, comfortable air (100°F+) even using lower-temperature water.

Does this unit provide Air Conditioning?

Yes. It replaces both your furnace and your central air conditioner. In the summer, the outdoor heat pump produces chilled water (approx 45°F). The Arctic Air Handler circulates this water through the coil, removing humidity and blowing cool air through your existing ducts.

How does the "Variable Speed" fan save me money?

Traditional fans are either 100% ON or OFF. Our unit uses a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) motor. It creates a "Cruising Mode," running at lower speeds to maintain temperature rather than stopping and starting constantly. This uses a fraction of the electricity (as low as 100 watts) and keeps the room temperature perfectly stable.

Do I need bypass dampers for zoning?

No! This is a major advantage of the Arctic system. The smart controller monitors the pressure in your ducts. If you close the vents in one room (zoning), the fan automatically slows down to prevent pressure buildup. This makes zoning simple, quiet, and efficient without complex bypass ductwork.

What happens if it gets too cold (-30°C) outside?

The unit is designed for cold climates, but for extreme sub-zero events, we offer an optional Slide-In Electric Heater (5kW - 20kW). This fits directly inside the air handler and acts as an emergency backup, ensuring your home stays warm regardless of outdoor conditions.

Is it noisy?

It is significantly quieter than a gas furnace. The "Soft Start" motor ramps up slowly, eliminating the loud "whoosh" sound of air rushing through the vents when a cycle starts.

Are Arctic Heat Pumps environmentally friendly?

Yes, they significantly reduce carbon emissions compared to fossil fuel systems.

Can heat pumps provide both heating and cooling?

Yes, Arctic Heat Pumps offer efficient heating in winter and cooling in summer.

What maintenance is required?

Minimal maintenance is required, such as cleaning filters and annual inspections.

Are rebates available for heat pumps?

Many regions offer rebates and incentives for installing energy-efficient heat pumps.
